2. What is the difference between the plan types?

The Platinum, Gold and Silver plans all provide 24/7 coverage but offer different benefits and benefit limits. Our Platinum Plan is our most popular plan, and our only plan with travel insurance coverage, including up to $200,000 in out-of-province emergency medical insurance. This makes it the best choice if your child is going on an out-of-province or out-of-country trip. See the Compare Plans page for a quick summary of the plans.

3. If my child falls ill while travelling out of province/country, will they be covered?

Yes, under Platinum Plan only. Emergency Medical coverage is available up to $200,000. Travel benefits are only available for ages 20 and under. All terms and conditions of the policy are applicable.

4. What types of dental expenses are covered?

The policy covers dental treatment, follow-up treatment, orthodontic treatment and dental implants if your child needs them because of an accident. If a dentist reports that your child’s teeth are still developing and they still need treatment after 10 years because of an accident, the policy covers it. If your child’s dentures or removable teeth break because of an accident, the policy covers that too.

5. What types of eye care expenses are covered?

The policy helps pay for eyeglasses or contact lenses if the child:

a) damages or breaks them; or

b) needs them for the first time.

The benefit for both a) and b) above only apply if the child has an accident and is treated by a physician.

6. Is there coverage for physiotherapy?

Yes. The policy covers 5 types of paramedical treatment including physiotherapy if your child’s doctor refers him/her because of an accident.

1. Who is eligible?

To be eligible for this coverage, the student must be:

  1. more than 6 months old; and
  2. less than 27 years old; and
  3. live in Canada, except in the province of Quebec.

If the student is 14 years old or more at any time during the Coverage Period, they must be a full-time student in the 12 months prior to a claim. Full-time student is defined as being enrolled in a minimum of 3 courses at the same time during any 4-month period.

2. Are University/College students eligible for this insurance?

Yes, as long as they are under the age of 27 and meet the Eligibility Conditions as stated in the answer to Question 1 above.

3. My child is attending a private school. Can he/she be insured through this plan?

Yes as long as they meet Eligibility Conditions as stated in the answer to Question 1 above

4. Is there an age limit for the insurance?

Yes, this insurance is available to those who are more than 6 months old and less than 27 years old. For ages 21 or older, some benefits are limited. Read full policy for complete details.

1. Is the premium a monthly or annual rate?

The premium is a one time flat rate.

3. How can I purchase a plan?

4. Can non-citizens or persons without a valid GHIP purchase a plan?

Yes. Our plans cover non-citizens or persons who do not have government health coverage (GHIP). However, the Hospital Room benefit is unavailable and the Out-of-Province Emergency Medical benefit under the Platinum Plan is available up to a limit of $5,000.

5. My children go to different schools. Can I purchase insurance for them all at one time?

Yes.

If your children are under the same School Board: You can purchase online, and you will be prompted to fill in the school names of each child you are purchasing the insurance for.

If your children are under seperate School Boards or seperate Univiersities/Colleges: You can purchase insurance for all of them at one time by phoning us at 800-463-5437.

6. One of my children is with a Catholic board and my other child is with a Public board. Can I purchase insurance for both of them at one time?

Yes, please call us at 800-463-5437 to purchase or purchase seperate policies for each child using our online application.

7. Will I receive a policy or confirmation of insurance?

Yes, when purchasing, you can choose to have a policy brochure and confirmation either emailed or mailed to you.

1. When does my policy take effect?

Coverage begins on the time and date when we, Old Republic Insurance Company of Canada, or an authorized representative receive your completed application and premium.

2. When does my policy expire?

For all plans, coverage ends on the earlier of: a) the expiration date shown on the confirmation of coverage; or b) the date the insured no longer meets the policy eligibility conditions.

3. Is it possible to change my plan?

4. We are moving. Will my child still be insured?

Yes, as long as your child continues to reside in Canada and, if they are 14 years old or older, continue to remain a full-time student (as defined in the policy).
